DESCRIPTION
The Shard is a 95-storey skyscraper in Southwark, London, that forms part of the London Bridge Quarter development. Standing 309.6 metres high, the Shard is the tallest building in the United Kingdom, the 87th tallest building in the world, and the fourth tallest building in Europe. The building includes retail units, a hotel, office accommodation and luxury apartments.
OUR INVOLVEMENT
We provided a feasibility study for the property management company in the energy management of the building. Our study included an in-depth review of the energy usage, and what strategies could be implemented to reduce energy consumption. This included degree-day energy management techniques, monitoring of the existing specialist services (building management system and CHP system), and a review of the potential for the installation of thermal storage. Finally, this proposal was presented to the property management company.
